Senior Backend Software Engineer
Building the systems utilities run their billing on.
9+ years engineering the backend of a mission-critical utility SaaS platform — payment systems, PostgreSQL performance work, and the dispatcher frameworks that keep high-volume billing pipelines running.
About
/aboutI'm a senior backend engineer who's spent the last 9+ years inside one product: Exceleron's MyUsage, an enterprise SaaS platform that electricity, water and gas utilities use to run e-bill and prepaid billing, customer accounts, payments, communications, and meter operations.
My work centers on the parts of the system that can't go down quietly — payment processing, billing pipelines, and customer alerting. I've built reusable Dispatcher and Spooler frameworks for asynchronous processing, modernized the payment platform end to end, and led the migration from prompt-based phone alerts to SSML-driven Twilio Voice.
A good chunk of my time goes into database and performance engineering: optimizing PostgreSQL stored procedures, indexes and caching models, and planning zero-downtime deployments and rollback-safe migrations for production systems handling large, high-volume datasets.
As Advisory Product Developer, I also own a wider slice of the environment the product runs in — configuring and supporting web servers and virtualized infrastructure, working with stakeholders on technical direction, and mentoring the team on stronger solutions as we grow the CI/CD pipeline.

Exceleron Software Pvt. Ltd. — MyUsage
MyUsage is an enterprise SaaS platform used by electricity, water, and gas utilities to manage e-bill and prepaid billing, customer accounts, payments, communications, and meter operations.
Backend Platform Ownership
- Designed and enhanced backend services for billing, customer accounts, alerts, reporting, payments, and utility operations.
- Built reusable Dispatcher and Spooler frameworks for asynchronous processing across long-running, high-volume workflows.
- Spanned internal RPC calls, scheduled jobs, and queue-driven execution across multiple MyUsage modules — improving scalability and maintainability and reducing blocking operations.
Payment Platform Modernization
- Designed one-time payment, AutoPay, and Auto Recharge workflows, and a reusable PostPayment dispatcher.
- Integrated secure SOAP APIs, encrypted card/eCheck data, saved payment methods, convenience fees, retries, and reconciliation.
- Covered the full backend payment lifecycle — request construction, synchronous RPC, async queue processing, gateway responses, failure recovery, and transaction sync — improving reliability and enabling shared infrastructure for multiple payment journeys.
Customer Communication Platform
- Led the migration from prompt-based phone alerts to SSML-driven Twilio Voice.
- Implemented Gather-based opt-out, callbacks, token validation, caller-ID configuration, retries, and status handling, plus AssemblyAI transcription with SHA1 caching.
- Modernized outbound customer notifications and multilingual speech-to-text processing, cutting redundant external API calls through caching.
Utility Billing & Metering
- Enhanced electricity, water, sewer, and gas billing; developed a reusable Register Importer.
- Implemented estimate billing, Begin Read correction, meter exchange processing, and comprehensive billing validation across actual, estimated, mixed-read, tiered-rate, flat-rate, and meter-exchange scenarios.
- Increased confidence through automated pgTAP coverage of critical billing scenarios in PostgreSQL.
Database & Performance Engineering
- Optimized PostgreSQL stored procedures, indexes, caching models, and reporting queries; evaluated partitioning strategies for high-volume transaction and meter-data tables.
- Reduced billing runtime from roughly 45 minutes to 5 minutes.
- Reduced a major reporting workload from roughly 45 minutes to under 30 seconds.
Production Engineering & Reliability
- Planned zero-downtime deployments, rollback-safe database migrations, and queue-transition procedures.
- Resolved concurrency, race-condition, memory-growth, queue, and database incidents in production.
- Enhanced PagerDuty monitoring across sharded data movement, live queue continuity, and incident triage — reducing deployment risk and improving detection and response time.
Technical Advisory & Environment Ownership
The Advisory Product Developer role reports to Head of India Operations and the CIO, with ownership of the rapidly expanding environment and architecture — beyond any single feature workstream.
- Configure, manage and support virtualized environments, web servers (Apache, Tomcat, Nginx), and the RESTful services running on them.
- Work with stakeholders to advise on strong technical solutions, and collaborate with developers and system engineers on code releases and deployments.
- Drive continuous integration and deployment automation, and apply a systematic, ownership-driven approach to troubleshooting large-scale distributed production systems.
- Mentor the team to implement stronger technical solutions based on root-cause analysis, not just fixes.
